Report Highlights
In Sri Lanka, women make up 51.6% of the population, yet their labor force participation stands at only 31.6% (Sri Lanka Socio-Economic Data, 2024), well below the global average. This gender gap represents not just a social challenge but a significant economic opportunity lost, as studies show that greater gender diversity can boost economic performance by approximately 20% (Advancing gender equality in Sri Lanka: A crucial balancing act | McKinsey). The low participation rate is largely due to an unsupportive environment and persistent social barriers that limit women’s access to employment.
Recognizing the vital contribution women can make to the economy and the importance of fostering supportive workplace cultures, Great Place To Work® Sri Lanka conducted the gender-focused study, providing a platform for women’s voices to be heard and establishing clear benchmarks and measurements of their workplace experience and as a result, recognizing and honoring the 20 Best Workplaces™ for Women. This study celebrates organizations that have made significant strides in creating inclusive, supportive environments for women, inspiring others to follow suit.
